What If Every Social Media Platform Shut Down Right Now?
I’m going to keep this brief, for two reasons:
It’s not going to take long to get my point across.
It’s currently 2:51am and I’m sleepy but I had to get out of bed to get this point across while it was fresh on my mind.
If you’re an obsessed social media surfer like I am then you know that earlier this week (Tuesday morning to be exact), Instagram and Facebook went down for a HUGE portion of the day. Like, seriously… I’m not quite sure how I made it. Like, I couldn’t like, post, or even LOOK AT my timelines. It was a mess.5!
But it got me thinking, what if every social media platform shut down right now? I’m not talking about just for a few hours, I’m talking about for good! What backup do you have to reach your “followers” if you don’t have a website, or blog, OR MOST IMPORTANTLY an email list! I’ll tell you… the answer is NONE!
What if every social media platform shut down right now? What backup plan do you have for your business / brand?
One point I forgot to address in my post on the top reasons you need an email list for your business is that if something were to happen to your social media profile (or the platform as a whole) you’d be up the creek without a paddle, baby! The worse part is, there’s nothing you can do about it at that point but start over. All the hard work you put into curating that aesthetically pleasing profile, hosting giveaways, and posting to build your audience there would be completely lost.
Think of it this way. As my homegirl @themattiejames said, “… you’re only renting your social medias, you OWN your blog / email list!” Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t be focused on building a social media following, because you absolutely SHOULD… but what I am saying is that you should be putting that same energy into getting those followers on your email list.
That way, if every social media platform shut down right now… you’d have your email list and blog to rely on. *steps off soapbox*
